A change may be coming sooner than we think

Funny, I’m sitting in my gas guzzling SUV half way through a Banana and Cola Slurpee at a 7-11 in North Seattle.  Not exactly the kind of guy you’d expect to hear praising Elon Musk and how much he’s doing for our society…but that’s part of the tangent you’re about to read.

Most of you know I was an engineer before Real Estate.  What you may not know; I’ve always had a soft spot for alternative energy solutions.  When it comes to solar energy, Elon Musk is changing the game.  If it's a name you're not familiar with, he is the founder and CEO of Tesla, CEO and CTO of SpaceX  and the chairman of SolarCity.

So why am I singing his praises and what does it have to do with Real Estate?  Musk just announced a new battery system for Tesla and this system is a huge leap forward.  Yes, it's a battery for a car, but it has home applications as well.   If you combine that advance with the advancements in Photovoltaic solar panels, we now have feasible off grid options.  In addition, you have the ability to generate power and sell it back to utility companies.  This creates less load on the grid, less reliance on foreign oil, etc.   The batteries are a critical piece;  without the storage capacity the usefulness of solar was limited.

We’re lucky enough to live in a state that offers tons of incentives to install solar systems in your home.  So look for a series of articles and interviews talking about options and incentives for solar.  We’re at the front end of some real changes – should be great.

Here's a link to the current incentives for installing solar.
